Namiki’s Nippon Art Collection depicts subjects that are closely linked with Japanese Culture such as toys, dragons, flower baskets, origami and more. These pens are rich with timeless symbols. Produced using the Hira Maki-e technique, the pattern is created using coloured Urushi and raw lacquer and then covered with silver and gold powder. After drying, several layers of Urushi are applied. Once these layers have hardened, the pen is polished to achieve a deep lustrous shine.
The Namiki Nippon Art Crane and Turtle depicts a crane flying overhead and a turtle staring back from below in a pond. In Japan the crane and turtle symbolise good fortune and longevity and an old Japanese saying proclaims, “As the crane one thousand years, the tortoise ten thousand years.” This fountain pen pays tribute to these symbols of a long and prosperous life.
The extraordinary No.10 14ct gold nib with the image of Mount Fuji completes each model and is available in Fine, Medium and Broad sizes.
