The Chinkin technique is one of the most delicate. The artist must engrave the lacquer surface with fine cutting tools and a sheet of precious metal, then inlaying gold dust and polishing the pen carefully. This process has no tolerance for error, requiring extreme concentration to reveal the design’s intricacy.
This Namiki Yukari Chinkin fountain pen features a sparrow motif surrounded by elegant bamboo. The symbolism of bamboo is strong and positive, hence the Japanese proverb “The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists”. Represented in pairs, it doubles the luck factor. The sparrow, considered a songbird, brings good times with family or friends. A sparrow also is used in Japanese folklore and artwork to denote a gentle natured, intellectual person.
The extraordinary No.10 18ct gold nib with the image of Mount Fuji completes each model and is available in Fine, Medium and Broad sizes.
